Border Brawl :: Kansas City, MO

By Skip | Published: October 24, 2009

Between the state universities of Kansas and Missouri exists one of the most tense sports rivalries in the country, dating back to 1907, with the annual football showdown held in Kansas City. Border Brawl brings Ultimate’s most tense rivalry to the same home.

College Champions in each of the last three seasons, Carleton (‘09) and Wisconsin (’07, ’08) have also claimed the Central Regional Title in every season since 1989 (Carleton 15, Wisconsin 5). Reloaded for 2010, Carleton looks the favorite to repeat, but Wisconsin is especially eager to regain the upperhand in the rivalry with the Championships headed to Madison on Memorial Day weekend.

Twice National Runners Up in Columbus, to Carleton last season and Wisconsin in ’07, Colorado has been the Nation’s most consistent power program over the last decade, advancing to the National Semi-Finals or better in every year except 2006, including a National Title of its own in ‘04.

Fellow Central Regional neighbors, Kansas (South) and Illinois (Great Lakes) have also consistently churned out National level teams, and will look to continue the tradition in 2010.

From the Central Region, Luther and Minnesota claimed the third and fourth bids in 2009, each programs first Nationals appearance, with Iowa turning in an impressive regular season but falling just short in Northfield.
