Map to TiV Turf Field

troublecontinues
Yup, Las Vegas looks like Seattle right now. That’s just not right.

What is right, though, is that TiV 2010 is going to persevere. Field maps are up here (go to “Maps” )
and we’ll be releasing the new schedule sometime late late tonight. Keep your chin up, and know there’s Trouble still waiting for you in Sin City.

We’ll keep posting here and to captains as updates come in.

IMPORTANT PARTIAL-CANCELATION ANNOUNCEMENT

Club Vegas Teams,

It’s possible that the gods have spoken: a tournament in Vegas is officially the worst idea ever. The typically-concrete-like fields that seemingly could not see enough rain have undergone the largest single week of rain in the history of Nevada, and the tournament site we have been using, rain or shine, for years now has been closed for the week. We are doing everything that we can to reverse this decision of the site directors, and we are also working on contingency plans. You, like us, have likely already paid for things like plane tickets that can’t be easily canceled, and we are doing everything we can to give you the weekend you deserve.

For teams that no longer wish to attend:

We’ll offer refunds for any team that would like to pull out of the tournament. Absolutely no questions asked, for any reason. Refunds will be a combination of returned fees and reduced entry at an upcoming tournament, based, in part, on the number of teams that drop.

However, if you want to come to Vegas for fun, friends, and Ultimate…

1. A mini-tournament

We’ve found a smaller set of turf fields that we can rent for the weekend.

We’ll set up a very different sort of tournament, but one that maximizes a tournament atmosphere and also gives you copious time to hit the Strip and its casinos. It won’t be exactly what we we’re hoping for, but it could turn out to be a weekend of even more Trouble. The plan is to give each team 4 1-hour games. While the games aren’t as long, with quicker times between points, no half time break, and fewer timeouts, playing time can be maximized. We think you’ll still be able to find that endorphin-bomb that is playing exhausting Ultimate.

We’ll schedule games in one of five 4-hour chunks between 9am and 9pm on Saturday, and 9am and 5pm on Sunday. We can’t run out a final schedule for you right now just yet (we’ll wait to hear if any teams drop), but will have it at the end of Thursday evening. If teams want to play additional games, we actually have the fields from 8am until Midnight both nights and we can easily set teams up with bonus games. We’re also taking requests; if there is a team you want to play against, let us know and we will make it happen. If teams have many players dropping, we can also combine parts of teams to maximize games.

2. Trouble in Vegas is your party central (booze, rooms, debortuary).

We’re renting a group of hotel rooms at the Tropicana that will serve as the weekend-long tournament-turned-party-central, that will be stocked with 100 bottles of liquor and will undoubtedly be at the heart of many shenanigans. From there, in the middle of the action of the Strip, you can meet old friends, make new ones, and have the memorable weekend that you hoped when you signed up for the tournament.

This isn’t perfect…far from it. But if you want to join your friends in Vegas, throw a disc, see friends on other teams, and sweat out the toxins you are planning to accumulate, this can still be a great weekend, and maybe even better than the weekend we had originally planned. If you have ideas about how we can help your team have a great weekend, given the circumstances, we would love to hear them. We want to make this as good as it can be. We’ll sleep next week.

Please contact us immediately with your plans. Email us at coordinator@cultimate.com or call 512.739.3797.

Our apologies, and our hopes for a great, if radically different, weekend,

The Cultimate Team
